Not all French certifications have the same validity.

DELF and DALF are official diplomas valid for life.

TCF and TEF are proficiency tests with results valid for two years.

DELF and DALF certify a specific CEFR level (A1 to C2), while TCF and TEF assess your overall French proficiency and provide a score corresponding to your level.

TEF Canada – In the framework of immigration and citizenship application procedures, the Federal Government of Canada requests proof of the applicants’ linguistic knowledge of French.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has recognized the TEF for these purposes since 2002. The TEF format that applies to these procedures is TEF Canada.

Regarding a Canadian immigration application you must take the following tests: Oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral expression, written expression. Regarding a Canadian citizenship application you must take the following tests : Oral comprehension and oral expression.

TEF Québec (TEFAQ) French evaluation test

TEF Québec (TEFAQ) is a test of general French which aims to measure the candidate’s level of knowledge and ability in French. It is the version of the TEF recognised by the Quebec Ministry for Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion (MIDI) and is essential for making an official immigration application.
